§ 3 What are cookies and what are they for?
What are cookies?
Cookies (also "cookies") are IT data sent by a website and stored on the end devices of users such as computers, phones or tablets. Cookies usually have a text format. The data contained in cookies allow the user's device to be recognised and the website to be displayed accordingly. Based on the information in the cookies, the website adapts to the technical characteristics of your device. Thus, it can adapt its appearance to the screen size, as well as the type and version of the web browser. Cookies also allow the personalisation of website functions according to the individual needs of the user. For example, they make it possible to display the website by default in the user's language. Cookies usually contain the name of the website from which they came, the storage time on the end device and a unique number.
What is the purpose of cookies?
Below we present typical functions supported by the information used by cookies.
- Provide data on the technical characteristics of the end device — for example, a computer, phone or tablet, in order to adjust the appearance of the website. This ensures correct operation regardless of the type, model and version of the device and software used by the user.
- Allow the customisation of website functions to the user's needs. For example, they allow you to choose the preferred language, notifications or advertising.
- Enable optimisation of website use. They store information about the user's choices regarding ad profiling, language settings, browser used, notifications, etc. Thus, the user configures the website only once — and not every time they visit the site.
- Make it easier to log in to a user account. They allow you to navigate between sub-pages on websites without the need to log in again to each sub-page separately.
- Act as an additional layer of security, preventing access by unauthorised persons.
- Allow the collection of statistical data on the basis of which administrators improve their websites. They may concern, for example, the amount of time spent on the website or how often users use various functions. The information collected in this way is then used to improve the structure and content of websites.
- In some cases, cookies make it easier to identify users whose behaviour shows signs of prohibited actions.
- Provide data to ensure fine-tuning and smooth operation of websites. For example, they allow analysis of traffic and detection of anomalies, such as Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks.
- Enable the delivery of personalised advertising. They collect statistics on user interaction with displayed ads, purchase history and search history. On this basis, advertisements for products and services that are more likely to attract the user's attention may be displayed.
§ 4 Do cookies contain personal data?
Cookies rarely contain personal data. The information stored in them usually does not allow identification of individual users of the website. However, in some cases they may allow the user to be identified — this applies, for example, to cookies that remember login or payment data. In other situations, cookies may make it easier to identify the user by creating their profile. A profile is a set of information that allows the user to be classified based on their specific characteristics — for example, how they use the website. This is called indirect identification.
§ 5 What cookies do we use?
Below we present an overview of the cookies we use on the CamelExpert website. We also inform you about the legal basis for placing cookies on your devices and the consequences of blocking the operation of certain types of cookies.
Type of cookies: essential
Purpose: These files are technically necessary for the proper functioning of the website or the functionality the user intends to use. A website without these files will be displayed incorrectly — for example, it may be too large or unreadable.
Legal basis for data processing: Achieving this purpose is our legitimate legal interest. Legal basis: Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR in connection with Article 173(3)(2) of the Act of 16 July 2004 "Telecommunications Law".
Consequences of using cookies: Storage of these files is necessary for the functioning of the website. If you object to the storage of such cookies on your device or delete them, the website may not work correctly from a technical point of view. For example, it may not be displayed correctly, and some basic functions may be inactive.
Type of cookies: Functional
Purpose: Improving the quality of website use by enriching it with additional functions. The website without these files will work correctly, but will not be adapted to the user's preferences.
Legal basis for data processing: Functional cookies are used solely on the basis of your consent. Legal basis: Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR in connection with Article 173(1) and (2) of the Act of 16 July 2004 "Telecommunications Law".
Consequences of using cookies: If you do not consent to the storage of these types of cookies, the website will retain only basic technical functionality, but its additional functions will be inactive.
Type of cookies: Business
Purpose: We collect anonymous statistical data to improve our website. This will improve its appearance and ease of use, as well as its optimisation. We will study how you use the website in order to show you more relevant advertising. Thus, you may receive information about products and services that we believe may be of interest to you. Blocking these files does not have a negative impact on the operation of the website and does not reduce its functionality. However, it will not allow the owner to derive profit from the website's activity.
Legal basis for data processing: Business cookies are used solely on the basis of your consent. Legal basis: Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR in connection with Article 173(1) and (2) of the Act of 16 July 2004 on Telecommunications.
Consequences of using cookies: Consent to the placement of business cookies, including marketing and statistical ones, is voluntary. By blocking this type of cookies, you will not suffer any negative consequences. We will not be able to collect anonymous analytical data necessary to adapt our website to new devices, software versions and ways of use by the user. In addition, we will not be able to show you personalised advertising, that is, the kind that we believe will interest you the most. It is selected based on information about your activity on the Internet, including search results and history, clicks or time spent viewing certain advertisements. We will still show you advertising. The difference is that it will be random, rather than selected based on information about your activity on the Internet.
§ 6 Tracking technologies
The following tracking technologies from external providers are used on the website:
Google Analytics — a tool provided by Google Ireland Limited. Google Analytics collects information about the user's visits to the website to generate statistics on the operation of the website and allows the analysis of website activity to better adapt the offer and the website to the user's needs. Google's privacy policy is available at: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl
Meta Pixel (Facebook) — a marketing tool provided by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited. The Meta Pixel code on the website collects information about the user's use of the website, including information about viewing certain page content, going to the contact form, completing a payment and filling in a form (e.g. subscribing to the newsletter). As a rule, information collected via Meta Pixel is anonymous — it does not allow the user to be identified. However, the Controller informs that Meta Platforms may combine the information collected with other user data collected as part of the user's use of the service (Meta Platform), and use it for its own purposes, including marketing. You can read more about the tool on the provider's website: https://www.facebook.com/business/tools/meta-pixel, as well as about Meta Platforms' data processing rules, available at: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy/
Edrone tracking code — the system provider is Edrone Sp. z o.o. The system is used for the analysis of website statistics and marketing purposes for email, SMS and social media campaigns initiated or designated by the Controller using the Edrone system. More information on the principles of personal data processing can be found in the provider's privacy policy, available at: https://edrone.me/pl/polityka-prywatnosci.
§ 7 Managing cookies
You can give your consent to the use of business and functional cookies and withdraw it at any time. Cookies can be controlled and managed in various ways. However, please remember that deleting or disabling them may affect the operation of the website — they may limit its functionality (see § 5). We will not install functional and business cookies on your end devices until you give your consent. After withdrawing consent, we will not install cookies on your end devices until you give your consent again. If cookies are not necessary for the proper operation of the website, we will ask the user for consent to use them during the first visit (or after they have been cleared by the user). We will not delete already installed cookies. You can do so yourself via the cookie management panel available on the home page — the "Cookie Management" tab. Users can also manage cookie settings in the browser they use.
